What is a TSP 77?

This form will be used for making requests related to Thrift Savings Plans, which are special savings accounts for people who are enlisted in a branch of the military, federal employees, or immediate family members of these parties. A TSP-77 form is known as a Request for Partial Withdrawal When Separated. This form will be used by a participant who has been separated from federal service to request a one-time withdrawal of at least $1,000 or more from their TSP.
This form requires information about the Thrift Savings Plan participant, as well as details about the partial withdrawal request. The amount requested should be listed, as well as the current information about the account. Filers can choose to have the funds direct deposited. For this method of payment, you will need to list your bank account information. Before this form can be submitted, it must be signed and notarized.

How to complete a TSP 77 (Step by Step)

To complete a TSP-77, you need to provide the following information:

  • Information About You
    • Whether the request applies to your civilian account or your uniformed services account
    • Name
    • TSP account number
    • Date of birth
    • Daytime phone number
    • Address
  • Partial Withdrawal Request
    • Amount you want to withdraw
  • Transfer Election
    • Whether you want to transfer the entire amount to an IRA or an eligible employer plan
  • Direct Deposit Information
    • Type of account
    • Name of financial institution
    • ACH routing number
    • Checking or savings account number
  • Additional Tax Withholding
    • Indication if you would like an amount withheld in addition to the mandatory 20% for federal income tax
  • Certification and Notarization
    • Participant’s signature
    • Date signed
    • Participant’s address
    • Notary date, commission expiration, signature, jurisdiction, seal
