Form 130 U

Form 130-U is used in the State of Texas to apply for a title to a vehicle. Also known as an Application for Texas Title, the document is completed to transfer the title from the seller of the vehicle to its new owner. It includes information about both parties as well as information about the vehicle (including its VIN number).

What is a Form 130 U?

This form is used by the State of Texas in order to apply for a vehicle title. The Form 130-U is also called an Application for Texas Title and/or Registration. To fill out this form, the filer will need to have the vehicle’s previous title provided by the vehicle’s seller. The information on the title will be necessary in order to completely fill out a Form 130-U.
The form will require detailed information about the vehicle that has been purchased. This will include the VIN, or Vehicle Identification Number. This can typically be found inside the car, and it should be on the previous title as well. Basic information such as the car’s year, make, model, and body style will also be needed. This will allow the state to identify the vehicle.
In addition to vehicle information, applicant information is required. This includes personal identifying information and contact details. The applicant or registrant will also need to provide their driver’s license number, state, issue date, and expiration date.

Most Common Uses

This form is used to apply for a Texas title or registration.  It is commonly used when someone purchases a vehicle in Texas.  Failure to title a vehicle within 30 days from the date of sale may result in delinquent transfer penalties.  If you buy a vehicle from a dealer, the dealer is required to file the title application on your behalf.  If you purchase your vehicle from an individual, the seller should provide you with a signed Form 130-U and any other supporting documents so you can file an application with the tax office.
